Royal Rehab is Australia’s leading provider of rehabilitation and disability services. Highly regarded for our specialist expertise in brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, Royal Rehab is also renowned for our private hospital, supported accommodation services and community services delivering holistic quality care.
The organisation was borne of the compassion of one remarkable woman over 120 years ago. Blind herself, Susan Schardt was concerned that there was little provision for hospital patients discharged as ‘incurable’. Often with no family, money or ability to work, many people faced a bleak future. Determined to do something, she rented a cottage in Sydney’s Surry Hills in 1899 and established accommodation for destitute people who needed support. The NSW Home for Incurables, as it became known, moved to its current Ryde site in 1906. Although many things have changed in the intervening years, including the introduction of funding support like the NDIS, Royal Rehab (as we are known today) continues to enrich the lives of the people it serves.
Our skilled multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals supports people with disability to achieve as much independence and quality of life as possible. This includes assisting individuals as they adjust to their changed abilities, relearn skills, gain new skills, and reintegrate into their home and community. A commitment to clinical excellence, education and research, and personalised care underpins everything we do.
Every individual’s circumstance is different, and independence comes in many forms. Your aspirations and goals are our starting point. Let’s work together to discover what’s possible!
