Social isolation, employment barriers and chronic loneliness are just some issues facing Australians living with disability today. Did you know that the unemployment rate of people with disability are almost double the national average: 10% compared to the national average of 5.3%?
Civic is taking steps to combat these statistics through social enterprises like Civic Crew and Kitchen & Catering services based throughout Sydney and on the NSW South Coast. These two initiatives join Civic’s long-standing programs which include lawn mowing and car washing crews, warehousing and paper shredding services.
Civic Crew assists organisations to employ people with disability on a short or long-term basis, working with employers to provide crews of supported employees and supervisors to work within their organisations.
The benefits to supported employees are immense; greater independence and additional skill sets just a few. Employers who adopt Civic Crew are also at an advantage, benefiting from workplace diversity and improved organisational culture, all the while meeting their Corporate Social Responsibility targets.
Civic’s Kitchen & Catering social enterprises provides employment opportunities and skills training to people across Sydney and in the Shoalhaven. Through Civic’s cafés and catering businesses, individuals can build skills, grow in confidence, and create connections in the community.
