Finding your kind of independence with Mable

Independence looks different for different people. Mable’s mission is to help clients and support workers find their kind of independence.

Mable is the online platform where people connect to provide and receive disability support their way.

Over the last ten years, more than 25 million hours of support have been delivered through Mable, enabling thousands of Australians to achieve their own kind of independence.

You can register on Mable to find, book, and manage support for yourself or a person with disability, either by paying privately or by using government funding options, such as the NDIS.

Here’s how some community members have found independence on Mable.

Karen got the confidence to join the glee club

By finding an independent support worker who shares her love for singing and dancing, Karen found the confidence to pursue her passion.

‘I met Christina, and she changed everything for me. She actually helped me get my confidence in performing in a glee club, and I know I couldn’t do that without Christina. It’s actually enriched my life.’

As a lover of performing, too, Christina was more than happy to help Karen. She says, ‘Karen asked me and I said, yes, why not! Let’s do it. I know she felt like she couldn’t do it, but I kept telling her, you can do it, and she did it!’

Alyssa is building independence, one load of laundry at a time!

Having recently finished year 12, Alyssa is keen to continue growing her confidence with practical life skills that she can take into adulthood.

That looks like everything from learning how to tackle the laundry pile and trying out new recipes to navigating public transport, all with the help of her independent support worker, Natalie.

As mum Melissa says, ‘Natalie certainly brings out the best in Alyssa, because she feels comfortable and she gives her confidence.’

Doing what he loves – how Henry is thriving with autism support

For Henry, who has autism and ADHD, being home-schooled was the best pathway to education. To encourage him in having social relationships and support him at home, Henry’s mother Annabel found Mable independent support worker Darryl, whose grandsons live with autism.

Darryl spends time with Henry doing practical activities and has taught him a range of life skills, including woodwork, how to safely build a fire, and use tools.

Annabel says Darryl has been instrumental in helping Henry to gain trust in adults, other than family and friends.
