Pat, a proud gym junkie and footy fan, once faced a future full of unknowns.
Living with an intellectual disability, he found that traditional paths like driving or full-time work weren’t options after school.
But Pat had a goal: to live independently and earn his own income.
That’s when he connected with APM Employment Services.
“When I first came in, I didn’t know where to start,” Pat recalls. “I just knew I wanted to work.”
With the support of this local APM team, Pat began building his confidence.
They helped him prepare for interviews, coached him through the process, and even introduced him to potential employers. Their belief in Pat’s potential never wavered.
Soon, Pat landed a job at the Warragul Country Club. He started small – collecting glasses – but his determination and positive attitude quickly stood out.
Over time, he moved into the café, and now he’s a valued member of the Bistro team, delivering meals and chatting with customers.
“Pat’s amazing,” says Ann, the Club’s Hospitality Manager.
“He brings so much joy to the team and our patrons. We wouldn’t be the same without him.”
Having a structured job has transformed Pat’s life.
His confidence has soared, his social circle has grown, and he’s become a familiar, friendly face around town.
“Everyone knows Pat,” says his mum, Lynette. “He’s always saying hello to people we don’t even know!”
Pat’s also thriving physically, staying active at the gym and often bumping into customers from the Club.
“They’ve supported me since day one,” he says with a smile.
Now celebrating 10 years at the Club, Pat reflects on how far he’s come.
“I love the challenge of the Bistro, the fast pace, and just having fun,” he says.
“I couldn’t have done it without APM’s support. It’s a big achievement.”
